#White People Doing Yoga

This article was forwarded by a friend with whom I’ve been having hecka conversations about cultural appropriation in spirituality lately… it’s an article about a show on now at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. #White People Doing Yoga is an installation by Chiraag Bhakta, an artist who works as a graphic designer under the name Pardon my Hindi. Read the article and see some remarkable pieces from his extensive collective of Westernized yoga ephemera, including a record created by a white woman in the late 50’s who changed her name from Eugenie Peterson to Indra Devi, gave herself the title “First Woman of Yoga,” and declared herself as “ The World Foremost Authority on Yoga”,  For real.
